Hometown Narrative
I’m from Bryant Arkansas. For the majority of my life, I have lived in Bryant Arkansas, it is my hometown. When I was first born, I lived in Alexander Arkansas and went to Davis elementary school. After elementary school my family and I moved to a house in Bryant, and I started Bryant Middle School.
While starting Bryant Middle School I also started Bryant cheerleading. Everyone who knows anything about Bryant knows that Friday night lights are a big deal to us. I have always dreamed of being a cheerleader at Bryant. I'd go to the Salt Bowl every year and watch the cheerleaders on the sidelines, hoping that one day that would be me down there stunting and tumbling. The Salt Bowl is a football game between two of the largest cities in Saline County, Bryant and Benton. Thousands of people including fans and alumni all come to watch the game. It is one of the largest high school football games in Arkansas.
After my 8th grade year Bryant decided to open a Jr high for 8th and 9th graders. That means that I would have to wait another year to be able to cheer at the salt bowl. I would also lose a year of cheering at the salt bowl. I tried out for the 9th grade cheer team, and not only did I make the team, but I made 9th grade cheer captain. I was slowly getting closer and closer to my dream of cheering at the salt bowl.
My sophomore year I started Bryant High School. I made the high school cheer team and was so excited to be able to cheer for the best high school team in Arkansas. The salt bowl is one of the first games of the year. I learned all of the new cheers, dances and routines. I was ready for the game. When I arrived at the game there were already so many people in the bleachers. The game began and fans yelled and cheered on their teams. I'm a flyer so it was cool getting to be thrown through the air in front of thousands of people. Many little girls came up to the fence in their little cheer uniforms asking to take pictures with us. I realized that those little girls have the same dram as I once had of being able to cheer at the Salt Bowl. Bryant went on to win the game for the 6th year in a row since tying Benton in 2014.
Throughout my high school years and even before Bryant has been the number 1 high school football team in Arkansas. Going on to win five 7A state championships in a row. Bryant took down many teams that people did not believe was possible. Like Football Hall of Fame defensive back Deion Sanders team. It was an amazing experience getting to cheer on the team during every win and completing my dream of cheering at the Salt Bowl.
